I'm permanently black and blue,
permanently blue for you.
I first started shooting as a photographer, and not a cosplayer, at the beginning of this year. Maybe because people liked what they saw, or maybe because they were friends who felt more comfortable with me shooting them, cosplayers began to ask me to shoot for them.
6 months later, I realise that I've cosplayed a grand total of 2 times this year, whereas I've already attended 6 shoots and 6 events as a photographer. In the omfg case of Kurobara, I cosplayed as Taojun, changed out, and started shooting cosplayers.
First off, I understand what it's like to be a cosplayer. The insane rush before a shoot- how badly organised or unplanned the whole thing can be- the sheer stress- it can really drive one up the wall.
Now I'm beginning to understand the pains of being a photographer as well. To be honest, I find being a photographer easier than cosplaying. Equally tiring, but easier. (But maybe that's because I used to stubbornly insist on sewing all of my costumes. But then again, cosplay used to mean more to me.)
As a photographer, there are expectations.
Obviously, your subject has to like the photos that you take.
(Or maybe it's because I used to be a cosplayer, so I'd care.)
Then there's transport, my inability to wake up and arghhhh EQUIPMENT.
Just so you know, I use
While most cosplayers' "responsibilites" are relieved once the shoot ends, that's when the photographer's work begins. And i'm bloody anal about what my end product looks like so I spend an insane amount of time processing my photos. I'd still take this over rushing out a costume though.
This isn't a rant about the evils of being a photographer, but maybe a comparison of the two evils instead. (Cosplay vs Photography)
HAHAHA.
Don't get me wrong. I enjoy taking photos.
I may be noob as hell, but I think photography's already taught me alot. (although i only recently got the hang of f sto-- OHHHHHH!)
It's nice to experience a shoot from both point of views. (Oh my GOD, I have backlog to clear ALREADY?!)
(Hmm now I'm not sure if my post had a point, HAHA.)
Nevertheless, I'd like to thank everyone who's commented, faved, liked any of my photos.
Loads of love goes out to all the cosplayers who have graciously invited me to a shoot of theirs; and TOGU!! Thank you for your D40. HAHAHAHAHA. I actually think I learnt alot about photography from watching you shoot me.
I hope you like what I've been producing so far, and I will work hard!
Shameless plug: Don't forget to visit Dear Ophelia, I think it's the blog I'm most active at!
